Law Graduate Assessment Test (Law-GAT)
"For Eligibility to Seek Enrolment as an Advocate with Bar Council"
The Honourable Supreme Court vide its Order dated March 6, 2018 has directed restoration of the Law Graduate Assessment Test (Law GAT) by the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) through the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
The objective of the Assessment Test is to ensure proper scrutiny and evaluation of a law graduate desirous to join the legal profession so that only competent individuals possessing necessary basic knowledge of law may enter the legal profession for practicing law.
Therefore, a law graduate only becomes eligible to apply to a Bar Council for enrolment as an Advocate if he/she qualifies the Assessment Test to be conducted by HEC, Pakistan having been so authorised by the PBC, pursuant to the aforementioned Order of the Hon ble Supreme Court and read with Section 26 (cc) of Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils Act 1973 and rules of the PBC.
Eligibility Criteria
Persons having passed Bachelor's degree in Law or equivalent from a university recognized by HEC/PBC are eligible to apply.

Date of Test
The Law-GAT Test tentatively will be held on January 7, 2024.
Any change in test date, due to unavoidable circumstances, shall be communicated to Candidates through www.hec.gov.pk and http://etc.hec.gov.pk
Applicants who register through HEC online registration process will download their Roll Number Slip through http://etc.hec.gov.pk a week before the test date.
Email/SMS will be sent to registered applicants for test date, time and venue. Candidates are required to provide valid email/mobile number while filling ontine application form.
A print of Roll Number Slip and Original CNIC/Passport will be required to enter in Test center.
Applicants may select any test center from the list avarlable in the application registration form.
Please note that said test will be held on any of available test center if minimum 250 applicants will select that center.
Please also note that test center once selected will not be changed after registration.

Application submission compnses of two steps: profile completion using "My Profile” section and application submission using “Law Graduate Assessment Test” link on menu panel in left hand side bar of online portal.
Only SUBMITTED applications will be considered for Law-GAT Test and applications in SAVE or INCOMPLETE mode will not be entertained.
Test Fee of Rs. 3000/- is to be deposited via 1Link Bill Invoice part crpating Banks/ATM/Internet Banking/Mobile Banking/EasyPaisa/JazzCash/Upaisa.
Once you have selected tink Ibill Invoice payment service. Open /sign into your mobile app and click on Bill payment or payment services (as per your mobile banking app options).
Click on 1Bill avoice payment services and enter the consumer number generated by the ETC portal. Once you see the details, pay the amount.
After deposited the fee through ilink 1Bill (Invoice, click on Verify Online Payment on ETC Dashboard.
The test fee is non-refundable and non-transferable,
The candidates must get queries/complaints resolved before the closure of the web registration portal. Queries/complaints handling beyond the registration deadtine 1s denied by the system due to logistics/security reasons.
Note: It is Mandatory to bring a printout of Roll Number Slip on a test day along with your Original CNIC/Original Passport else candidate will not be allowed to sit in the exam.
Deadline
Last date for online registration is December 25, 2023 (4 pm).
Passing Criteria
50% score Is required to pass the Law Graduate Assessment Test (Law GAT).
Applicants will have to meet other criteria, if any, as per Rules and Regulations of the Pakistan Bar Council.
Applicants will have maximum of seven chances to clear the test. HEC will conduct the test on a quarterly basis.
